Since the main objective of the collaboratory is to teach specific classes at specific schools, the site is designed to work best with the computers available to the participating students. This mainly means that you need:

• Microsoft Windows (95, 98, or NT 4.0)
  No browser available for other operating systems implements all the features used in this site.
  This site uses java and javascript features that are not yet implemented on any browser available on other operating systems (not even on the same browser on another system).
  
• Monitor resolution of 1024x768 or higher.
  Monitors with resolution lower than 1024x768 cannot display the entire page, resulting in extensive scrolling.
  24-bit color ("millions of colors") is preferable, 16-bit color ("thousands") is adequate.
• Netscape Navigator 4.5 (or higher), or Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 (or higher)
  Older versions of these browsers do not implement all the features used in this site.
  If you do not have Navigator 4.5 you can get a free copy from Netscape
  If you do not have Internet Explorer 4.0 you can get a copy from Microsoft

MACINTOSH
Netscape Navigator: The Mac version of Navigator 4.5 produces serious java and javascript errors.
Internet Explorer: The Mac version of Internet Explorer produces serious java and javascript errors.

UNIX
Navigator behaves very unpredictably across unix flavours.
